CSE PhD degree requirements are changed

PSU의 CSE PhD requirement가 바뀌었다.

9 subject area중에서 3과목의 수업을 듣고,

Data Structures and Alorithms, Programming Languages중의 1과목
Operating System, Computer Architecture 중의 1과목의 시험을 봐야한다.

그리고, 시험본 과목 이외에서 2과목의 수업을 들어야 한다.

그래서...

나는 Data Structures and Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Computer Networks

세과목의 수업을 듣고,

Data Structures and Algorithms, Operating Systems 의 시험을 보는게 어떨까 생각중이다.

Picasso in Seoul Art Museum


서울 시립 미술관에서 피카소 작품 140점을 전시한다기에 가봤다.

피카소, 피카소 하는데 도대체 어떤 그림이길래 그 사람이 그렇게 유명한지에 대한 호기심이랄까..

고딩때 미술시간에 배운기억으로는 피카소는 청색시대(푸르딩딩한 그림만 그림), 장미시대 (붉그죽죽한 그림만 그림) 를 지나서 입체파 화가로 변모해 갔다는 것 정도..

그림을 본 소감은 이 사람은 정말 다작한 사람이었구나 싶었다.
그리고, 같은 그림 막 그려서 팔았다는 말이 나돌만큼 같은 사물을 놓고 여러 그림을 많이 그렸고, 이번 전시회에서는 그런 그림들을 나란히 배치해서 재미있었다.

웹에서 picasso로 검색해보니 이번에 본 그림이 하나 나왔다..

너무 잘 되가는건가..

좋은 일 1.
어제 저녁에 PSU의 Beelman 교수에게서 아내에게 e-mail이 하나 왔다.
돈은 없는데, 자리는 내줄 수 있고, 이러저러한 일을 할 수 있겠냐는 내용이었다.
교원대에서 아내한테 준 자리가 PSU로 가더라도 계속 유지만 된다면,
돈 문제가 어느 정도 해결이 될테니, 연구를 계속할 수 있을 것 같다.
내일 교원대에 가본다고 하는데, 잘 되길 빈다.

좋은 일 2.
머 한달쯤 전부터 예정된 일이긴 하지만, 오늘 숭실대에 가서 출석부를 받아들고 왔다.
이번주 목요일부터 숭실대가서 강의를 하게 됐다.
컴퓨터 통신 특강이라는 강좌의 계절학기 강의를 맡았다.
잘 해내야지..

호사다마라 했던가, 오늘 결국 정신놓고 다니다가 성당 연습실에 가방을 두고 나왔다.
그래서 집에 차를 세우다가 다시 돌아가서 가방가져왔다. ㅡ.ㅜ.

감기야 물럿거라.

요즘 계속 기침감기로 고생중이다..아흑.
약 안먹고 버텨보려고 했는데, 결국 약 먹고 나아가는중.
왜이리 감기가 자주 오는걸까? 몸 상태가 많이 약해진건가...

운동 3주째.

운동시작한자 3주째가 되었다.
아직 몇가지 힘든 운동들이 있지만, 몸에 좀 익숙해진 운동들도 있다.
감기로 인해서 몸이 제 컨디션이 아니라 운동효과를 정확하게는 잘 모르겠다. - -;

One way ticket

Today, I received two one way bording tickets from Korean Airline.
My feeling was very strange.
This trip is not for returning my home but for going to strange place.

기분이 묘했다...
걱정도 되고, 긴장도 되고, 내가 진짜 가는구나...

요즘 SNU 관악사 체력단련실에서 운동을 한다..

월, 수, 금은 전신 웨이트 및 유산소 30분
화, 목 은 유산소 30분 및 Core Program.

머...조금 팔뚝이 굵어진거 같기도 하지만...아직은 잘 모르겠다.

처음에는 팔에 엄청 아팠는데, 지금은 좀 풀렸다.

1~2주 정도 뒤에는 조금씩 강도를 높여도 되지 않을까 싶다.

Denial of Service attack

Definition
A denial-of-service attack (also, DoS attack) is an attack on a computer system or network that causes a loss of service to users, typically the loss of network connectivity and services by consuming the bandwidth of the victim network or overloading the computational resources of the victim system.

Methods
1. Invalid Packets
: sends packets which is malformed or fragmented in an invalid way. ping of the death.

2. Flooding
: fooding overwhelming flux of packets.
ex) ping, SYN, smurf

B. Reasons for and purposes of doing things

Words for Condition

A.
1. You can't get in unless you have a ticket
2. You can use this book on condition that you return it by 5:00
3. In case of fire, dial 911.
4. You can stay as long as you don't mind sleeping on the sofa.

as long as : the least formal
on condition that : the most formal
providing that/provided that : a little more formal

In 3, don't confuse in case of with in case. "Take your unbrella in case it rains." [It isn't raining, but there's a chance of rain today.]

B. possibility with supposing/suppose and what if.
Supposing/Suppose and What if express possible situations in the future. (usually in spoken language).

- Supposing/Suppose it rains tonight - will the baseball game be called off?
- What if he doesn't turn up - what will we do then?

C. conditions with -ever
However you do it, it will cost a lot of money.
You'll get to the rain station, whichever bus you take.
Whoever wins the election, nothing will really change.
That box is so big, it will be in the way wherever you leave it.

These four sentences can also be expressed using no matter.

No matter how you do it, it will cost a lot of money.
You'll get to the train station no matter which bus you take.

D. Some nouns that express condition
Certain conditions must be met before the peae talks can begin.
Proficiency in English is a prerequisite for admisison to an American university. [absolutely necessary; a formal word]
What are the requirements for obtaining a driver's licence? [official conditions]
I would not move to a big city under any circunstances. I hate big cities!

Vocabulary for Time

A. One thine before another
- Before I went to work, I fed the cat.
- Before going to work, I ran a mile. [formal/written style]
- It was nice to be in Mexico City. Previously I'd been to Cancun and Guadalajara
[fairly formal; less formal : Before that, I...]
- I was in the office by 2:30. Earlier I was out. [less formal: Before that, I...]
- The dodgers are a Los Angeles baseball team. Formerly they were the Brooklyn Dodgers. [at an earlier time]

B. Things happening at the same time
- While I waited, I read the newspaper. [more formal: While waiting, I read..; the waiting and reading happened together]
- As I was driving to work, I saw an accident. [As is about the same as while.]
- I saw her just as she was turning the corner. [simultaneously; at that precise moment]
- During the war, I lived in Canada. [does not specify how long]
- Throughout the war, food was rationed. [from beginning to end]
- Whenever I see a sentimental movie, I can't help crying. [every time]

C. Onething after another
- After I locked up, I went to bed. [more formal: After locking up...]
- First we went to the movies. After that, we went out for coffee.
- He had a stroke and was rushed to the hospital. He did soon afterward. [In these two examples, after that and afterward are interchangeable.]
- Following my visit to Beijing, I bought lots of books about China. [fairly formal]

D. TIme when
When I'm rich, I'll buy a yacht. [Note; not "When I will be rich..."]
As soon as we finish packing, we can leave. [immediately after]
Once we finish packing, we can go get some coffee. [after, but less specific]
The moment/The minute I saw his face, I knew I'd met him before.

E. Connecting two periods or events
Dinner will take about an hour, In the meantime, relax and have a drink. [between now and dinner]
The new computers are arriving soon. Till then, we'll just use the old ones.[informal for Until then]
By the time I retire, I will have worked here for 26 years. [note: not "..I will work here for 26 years."]
